LSU added former Harvard offensive lineman Liam Shanahan to its soccer crew on Tuesday.
Coach Ed Orgeron introduced the addition of the All-Ivy choice lower than every week after he noticed three of his former beginning offensive lineman — Lloyd Cushenberry, Damien Lewis and Saahdiq Charles — chosen within the NFL draft.
Shanahan, at 6-foot-5 and 270 kilos, involves the SEC after enjoying 30 consecutive video games for the Crimson. Final season, he earned a spot on the New England Soccer Writers Division I All-New England Group and was the recipient of the Joseph E. Wolf Award as Harvard’s high inside lineman.
The grad switch shall be eligible to play instantly.
Though not typical, the Ivy League-to-SEC path is not exceptional. Vanderbilt nabbed former Penn defensive finish Louis Vecchio as a switch in 2018 and former Harvard vast receiver/return specialist Justice Shelton-Mosley in 2019. In 2017, Columbia grad switch Cameron Nizialek gained the beginning job at punter for Georgia, the place he averaged 45 yards on 61 punts.
